Lempäälä Senior Secondary School

Location
Lempäälä is a fast-growing town in Southern Finland. Its location is ideal: Lempäälä can easily be reached by various means of transportation. There is the Helsinki -Tampere freeway as well as a railroad pass through the town and there is an international airport Tampere - Pirkkala 15 kilometers from Lempäälä.

Lempäälä has a long and eventful history: the area has been inhabited since the Stone Age and the medieval St Bridget's church is a prominent feature of the town center. Waterways and beautiful nature are an integral part of the town. Lempäälä Senior Secondary School has a naturally beautiful location alongside the Lempäälä canal in the town center.

A New school building in August 2017
We move to the new modern school building in August 2017. It is situated one kilometer away from the town center, with beautiful lakeside sceneries.

Syllabus
A good many foreign languages are taught at Lempäälä Senior Secondary School: English, German, Swedish (another official language in Finland), French and Russian. The curriculum also includes basic courses in Spanish and Italian.

A large number of humanities and sciences taught at Lempäälä Senior Secondary School include Philosophy, Religion, History, Civics, Geography, Biology, Hygiene, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

Arts such as Drama, Music and Visual Arts as well as Physical Education are taught at Lempäälä Senior Secondary School. The students also have the possibility to take a diploma in Media Studies or in Arts and Physical Education.

It is possible for the students to specialize in one or more of these subjects and opt for specialization and applied courses in the syllabus.

International program
This program provides the opportunity for visits to foreign partner schools, for example in Sweden, Russia, Germany and ESN schools (European School Network) in many other European countries. Every year a few foreign exchange students study in Lempäälä Senior Secondary School.

Student committee
The students committee is the official representative of the student body. Its functions are to improve the general atmosphere, inform the principal and the faculty about the opinions and wishes of the students and to arrange different kinds of events and get-togethers at school and in their free time.

After Lempäälä Senior Secondary studies
After graduating from Senior Secondary School, the student has the required qualifications for academic studies or vocational education. As for success in the national final exams (the matriculation examination), Lempäälä Senior Secondary School ranks above the national average, which usually guarantees admission to further education. The school has a foundation which supports its former students in their continuing studies by awarding them grants.
